Tracking down the Mystery of Tamaqua's Mashack

Another photograph mystery:  "Tamaqua's Mashack Earns Gold."

Except this extremely noteworthy wrestler is obviously from Tri-Valley.

The article read: "No. 1 seed C__ Bordner of Tri-Valley vs. No. 2 seed C__ Mashack of Tamaqua for the championship at the District 11 Class AA Wrestling Tournament on Saturday night at Liberty's packed Memorial Gym"

We're looking at two schools here, Tri-Valley and Tamaqua.



There are Tri-Valley High Schools in Indiana, Ohio, South Dakota, and Pennsylvania, and Tri-Valley Wrestling Clubs in Alaska and California.

Here's a wrestler from Tri-Valley in Dresden, Ohio.















This is C__ Bordner, class of 2015, Tri-Valley Junior-Senior High School.  It's in Hegins, PA, population 800, about 50 miles north of Harrisburg.  It draws students from several nearby small towns.

Same uniform as the guy in the top photo, so he must be a Tri-Valley Bulldog, too.










They have a Facebook page with 600 photos.

Success!  The top photo was obviously misidentified.  The extremely noteworthy wrestler is Ty Schoffstall, who graduated from Tri-Valley in 2013, attended Edinboro University as a Physical Education major, and is now the assistant wrestling coach at Virginia Military Academy.

So who is C__ Mashack of Tamaqua?










Tamaqua a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, about 30 miles from Hegins, tucked between the equally small towns of Hometown and Coaldale.   According to Trip Advisor, the best thing to do there is book an Open Africa Safari and go to Kenya.

And the best restaurant is Burger King.

Tamaqua High has 660 students.  There's a swim team, in case you're tired of looking at wrestlers.



I found a K__ Maschack (spelled with a sch), a senior at Tamaqua who played against someone from the Shadyside Academy.  I'll bet the article spelled his name wrong, and he's C__'s brother.

















And finally a C__ Mashack, a wrestler who graduated from Tamaqua High in 2014.











He's now a student at Worcester Polytechnic
I'm feeling a little let down.  I was expecting someone more...um...noteworthy.

But at least the research was fun.
