In May 2018, USA Weightlifting, the national governing body of the sport of weightlifting in the U.S.,  crowned 20 athletes as the Strongest High School Athletes in America.  136 students from 40 schools participated.  They had to upload videos of their best bench press, squat, and power lift to the USA Weightlifting website.

Here are the male winners, from lowest to highest body weight.

1. Hayden from Utah.  Homeschooled (shown with his dad).  He also placed in track and field in the Junior Olympics.  When he was 11, he was diagnosed with Addison's Disease, which destroyed his adrenal glands. Now he must take hormone replacement therapy and suffers from fatigue and difficulty in remaining active. Which makes his weight lifting accomplishment remarkable.

Weight 119, benches 110.

2. Tito from Rabun County High School, Georgia. He also plays soccer and football. Weight 129, benches 215.

3. Austin, Imanol's classmate.  He also competes in powerlifting, wrestling, and football.  Weight 139, benches 260

4. Trent, classmate of Imanol and Austin.  That must be some high school!  He also plays baseball and football.  Weight 154, bench 225.

5. Chris Brown from the American Leadership Academy in Arizona.  I'm giving his last name because it's the same as 32,000 other people, including a celebrity, and I can't find him.

6. Daniel from Kamehameha High School, Maui, Hawaii.  He was also on the track team, and did gymnastics.  He has just begun his freshman year at Menlo College, where he is on the weightlifting team, naturally. Weight 183, benches 260.

7. Jake from ROCORI High School, Minnesota.  His father happens to be the strength and conditioning coach at his high school.  Weight 199, benches 345.

8. Gavyn from Rabun County.  I wonder what's on the lunch menu at that school? He is now attending the West Point Military Academy.  Weighs 219, benches 305.

9. Alex from Gulf Breeze High School in Florida.  Weights 238, benches 308.

10. Jacob Kaplan from American Heritage School, a private, nonsectarian school in south Florida. Weights 238, benches 385.

Some amazing athletes here, and a lot of potential for beefcake and bonding in the future.
