In the Netflix animated series Inside Job (2021), every conspiracy theory you ever heard of is real, from reptilians controlling Congress to the Moon Landing being faked. Cognito Inc. operatives Reagan (Lizzy Caplan) and Brett (Clark Duke) have the job of managing all of the misinformation, sort of like a reverse X-Files. To see if there are any gay characters, I watched the episode "Sex Machina," where Cognito markets a dating app. (It doesn't sound like much of a conspiracy, but maybe there are same-sex dates.)
Scene 1: Reagan with her rich Mom by the pool. Mom was dating her pool boy, Rodrigo (who shakes his butt at the camera), but now they've broken up, so he's free to date Reagan. Reagan isn't interested: her career takes up all of her time.
Scene 2: Meeting at Cognito. They've bought the dating app RightSwipe so they can mine personal information. The sentient mushroom wants a "mold digger." Dr. Andre identifies as "alwayssexual" (but he's surrounded by women). Plus they have enough dick pics to blackmail the government officials who haven't been replaced by reptilians or robots.
Reagan gets the job of going through the dick pics. Her colleagues joke that "these are the first dicks she's seen in months. Four-to-one she dies alone." Why is everyone believe that their life is worthless unless they are in a relationship on their deathbed? You're in a hospital, plugged into various machines. Who cares if you are dating?
Reagan gets tired of their jibes and vows to get a boyfriend by next week.
Scene 3: Reagan in a restaurant, having dinner with a guy from the app. Her dick picks accidentally pop out of her purse; he gets offended and leaves. (Why? I have lots of dick picks on my phone.)
Next guy: she takes a DNA sample to determine if they're a good genetic match.
Third guy: She accidentally mentions the shadow government, and has to have him "extracted."
Scene 4: Glenn, a human-dolphin hybrid, complains that he can't get dates because he's unattractive. Brett, who is attractive, claims that people don't go by looks; he's popular because of his personality. To find out, the team swaps their brains.
Meanwhile, Reagan seeks out the robot-human Alpha-Beta, and asks him to find her the perfect date. He does: Bryan Jacobsen, age 32, who likes dogs and reads to underprivileged children. They make a date.
Scene 5: Reagan makes a robot clone of Bryan to practice on. Meanwhile, the brain-switched Hot Glenn posts a dick pick to the dating app. J.R., the agency head, finds it attractive. Finally, someone mentions same-sex desire.
Scene 6: On a practice date with Robot Bryan. Uh-oh, the real Bryan shows up with a date of his own. They try to sneak out, but real Bryan sees Reagan covered with spaghetti sauce. That chance ruined, Robot Bryan suggests dating him instead. Why not? He's fully sentient, and, one assumes, has a working dick.
Scene 7: Hot Glenn tries to shop for clothes, but the clerk says he's too attractive for this store. He offers him a job modeling instead. Two girls offer to have sex with him (when he cries with joy, they lick his tears. Gross!).
Meanwhile, Dolphin Brett goes to a coffee shop, but he doesn't get free coffee, like usual, and when he smiles, a lady thinks he's a "sex pervert."
Scene 8: Reagan brings Robot Brad to headquarters, but her colleagues say that robots don't count as legitimate boyfriends.
Later, at home, he's too ambitious to sit still for "Netflix and chill," so Reagan programs him to be a slacker. Her father comes in, and is not impressed with Reagan's new boyfriend. Neither is Reagan.
Scene 9: Hot Glenn is busy modeling, so he asks Dolphin Brett to meet with his ex-wife for their weekly fight. But Dolphin Brett is caring and sensitive, and Ex-Wife finds him attractive.
Scene 10: Robot Bryan decides to build a Robot Reagan, an improvement on the real Reagan. But she wants the real Bryan!
Scene 11: Hot Brett outside a nightclub, Club Night (top photo) It's got a pink triangle on the logo, suggesting that it's a gay club, but there are men and women waiting to get in. The bouncer rejects him. Plus the girls he had sex with earlier reject him due to his crappy personality ("mansplaining the Civil War"). So I guess what's inside counts after all.
Nine more minutes, but no gay people except for that one throwaway scene.
