This teen won a gold medal in the World Powerlifting Congress in 2016. Naturally I had to research his home town to see if muscles were commonplace.
New Hamburg, population 7,900, is about two hours west of Toronto. It was founded by German Mennonites in 1854 (they also founded the nearby town of Berlin, renamed Kitchener).
Its main tourist draws are:
1. The largest working water wheel in North America.
2. The largest mopar (car) festival in Canada
3. Tim Horton's (best donuts in North America)
4. The historic Puddicombe House
There are two high schools in town: town: Grandview and Forest Glen, but their only sports are cross-country and hockey.
A little farther afield, the Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School has shirtless wrestling, but the physiques don't look all that impressive.
And a swim team, but this was the only male.
The only bodybuilder I found was female. You have to go all the way to Kitchener to find a male.
That powerlifting teen deserves credit for pursuing his passion alone.
